break the stress cycle! movement, breathing, positive social interactions, hugs, crying, creative expression - a list is written on a hand-drawn sign, held by a CultureSeed youth who wears a COVID mask under a winter coat standing outside hiking

CultureSeed’s mental health approach is to decentralize and destigmatize mental health, by spreading the responsibility among caring adults, peers, and referrals as needed.

It is unsustainable for one person, such as a therapist, to be tasked with the health of an individual and their multiple needs, while maneuvering bias and unhelpful stereotyping.

CultureSeed approaches this problem with the understanding that it takes multiple caring adults, peers, and at times coordinated community organizations, to support the resiliency and health of youth, especially those who have experienced trauma. CultureSeed is also able to provide non-clinical containers for therapeutic relationships to thrive, for walking and talking to be a part of the therapeutic process, and for therapists to meet youth within the pre-existing container of trust CultureSeed has nurtured with the youth we serve. CultureSeed focuses on long-term connection and tailored responses to each youth's circumstances, with a trauma informed lens and community based presence.

CultureSeed Mental Health goals:

  • Youth can regulate their emotions.

  • Youth have the interpersonal skills they need to build strong relationships.

  • Youth understand the value of time spent outside and can access the outdoors.

  • Youth are resourced in caring for their physical and behavioral health, and in accessing quality mental health care.

  • Youth feel supported in their behavioral health journey and in their journey to adulthood, through an interconnected community of caring adults, CultureSeed staff, peers, and behavioral health professionals.

CultureSeed’s Mental Health Model

peer circles, therapy, and outdoor experiences reinforce one another in a virtuous cycle with green arrows

Youth have access to one on one therapy, small group peer circles and outdoor experiences.

Youth can decide where they want to start based on their own comfort level.

Each element of our programming builds self worth, interpersonal and emotional regulation skills, and positive life experiences.
